The trailer I chose to review was Transformers. The narrative of the trailer shows a young male and young female working together, while also introducing both the good transformers and the bad transformers that have now chosen Earth to be their new battlefield. The stage is set for battle as the first encounter between the humans and an evil transformer occurs at a military base, and the humans are perplexed as to the cause of the attack on their military base.
The cinematography in the trailer contains mostly LS and CU. The LS mostly show the impending danger that the group will have to face, human and robot, and to also detail the destruction that these mighty machines can cause; the reaction to this damage is also shown. Additionally, the CU are used to show emphasis on a situation, especially one with increased danger or intimacy. These scenes are common in an action thriller sort of movie so it is only natural that they would appear in the trailer as well.
The editing in the trailer uses a lot of jump cuts and flashes images quickly across the screen to get the most out of the 1:59 time frame. Many of the shots run together as the images flash as a type of transition between one clip and the next. Additionally, there are text images that help to show the direction of the story and what will happen. The editing makes sure to show the most eye-catching images and most destructive scenes to capture the attention of the viewer. The audio in the trailer consists partially of dialog, but mostly of a techno mix that is rounded out by a scattered noise that is played when the images are shuffled. The music helps to amplify the danger that is created by the images. Finally, the beat of the music is matched with the changes in the images on the screen, adding an affect of increased tension to end the trailer with the title of the movie and a chilling background music.
