Run Lola Run Presentation Critique

My group thought that motion was an important part of the film Run Lola Run, as Tykwer himself stated that the movie was based off of the simple action of a woman running. Our belief was that the motion aspect of the film included not only the movement of Lola running, but also included various general movements as well. Unfortunately, the group did not make mention of blocking as we did not know what it was. The slides that we presented were spinning, slow motion, fast motion, split screen, flash forwards, and just motion in general.

The strengths of our presentation lied within the uniqueness of our examples and the layout of our slides. All of our screenshots represented motion in some form, and most of our examples were those of which were not used in other presentations. Additionally, we were able to analyze the examples we chose in response the their actual effects on the plot line and the effects they had on smaller characters like Lola's father, or bigger characters such as Manni.

Unfortunately our project posed an impressive challenge because our group was all first year students so we did not really know what to talk about or what to fill up our powerpoint with. I felt as if even though I knew the material, I read straight off of my note card because I was afraid I would forget about what I needed to say. Additionally, because we are first year students, we don't have a good grasp of the film vocabulary. All of these factors made it difficult for us to fill up the 15 minute time allotment. It would have been better if our group had included some more information about the director and a little bit more background knowledge as to why the film was so focused around motion, and maybe a few more direct quotes from reviews of the film or even Tykwer himself to help focus our presentation a little more.
